Ancient Times: Part 2
A continuation of the study of ancient history beginning with the struggle between Athens and Sparta and the fall of the Athenian empire, followed by the exploits of Alexander the Great, the Roman conquest of Italy, and the founding of the Roman Republic. Next comes a discussion of the Roman Republic, both its rise and fall, and, lastly, the eventual triumph of the barbarians and the end of the ancient world. In dealing with each civilization a sufficient framework of political organization and of historical events is recorded, but the bulk of the space is devoted to society, industry, commerce, religion, art, and literature. Dozens of illustrations and maps enliven the text.
