The first of two anthologies of the best fairy tales for eight year olds, compiled by Lisa M. Ripperton. Of the 36 fairy tales included in this anthology, 2 come from Andersen, 5 from Grimm, 4 from Howard Pyle's The Wonder Clock, 6 from Lang, and 7 from Arthur Ransome's Old Peter's Russian Tales. The remaining tales in this collection were selected from a wide variety of sources for their appeal to children of this age.
