The Family of the Sun

A sequel to Earth and Sky, dealing descriptively with the planets that orbit the sun—their appearances in the telescope, and the deductions that can be drawn from these appearances. All the planets are described in turn, their resemblances and differences brought out, and their relationships explained. Above all, the child is encouraged to observe phenomena for himself, becoming familiar with the phases of the moon and making a model of the solar system, using common objects ranging in size from a mustard seed to an orange.
